Running
Backlinks: Run training
I love running. By age 35 I have run over 10,000 miles including at least 15 marathons (5x Boston), 9 race wins, and currently holding two FKTs.
For a tally of marathons, see marathons. For training tech, see workout. For recovery, see recovery.
Wins
- 2025 MassMutual On the Move 5k
- 2025 Wendell Color Run 5k (okay, this hardly counts)
- 2024 MM Halloween 5k
- 2024 Littlest Bear Virtual 5k
- 2023 MM 5k
- 2023 First annual Runway 5k
- 2019 MM 5k
- 2018 MM 5k
- 2018 Rafters 5 miler
- 2018 MM 5k
- 2017 MM 5k
Many other local podiums over the years. Finally winning the Lake Wyola race would be amazing, but it may not happen. Like all of these local races, depends who shows up :) I think I missed a previous virtual 5k? (Who cares).
FKTs
- 2021 Niagara River FKT
- 2020 Circum Quabbin FKT
Run streaking
No, not that kind of streaking. One day in 2016 I woke up to realize I was only getting outside a day per week or so, and I could certainly spare 10 minutes per day. With a couple fits and starts, I ran every day for over 7 years from 2016 through 2023. By the end, the streak was as much a burden as it was a boon. The hard runs for me (and my family) are also the ones that kept me moving, so it was definitely a net positive for my health. I stopped the day Abel broke his leg, and I spent the night in the ER with him.
Outdoor Gear
Living and running in New England means running through all the seasons. Despite what you may think, this is not so bad with the right equipment. Olson napped in the stroller every day for 2+ years!
Shoes
Oh, the shoes. So many shoes.
Hoka Cliftons are among my all-time favorites. Number them, get 600 miles per pair.
Super shoes
Really great analysis by the NYT. They're pretty magic.
