Been a few incidents, but going "strong".
- Sam side-swiped a rock in like 2018.
- Had a few flats.
- I hit tire scraps on the highway in…2018ish.
- Got hit by a postal truck.
AC issues
Summer 2023, AC not working. Recharged and worked for whole summer.
Summer 2024, AC not working again. Recharged and worked for a couple months.
July 2024, AC out again. Recharge failed. Scheduled auto shop for 2024-08-20 to have AC looked at.
Ordered part, took a long time, going back to shop on 2024-09-26. Works.
Passenger side back door does not always close reliably.
Parallel parking
About as good as I can do. Rear:
Front:
Wiper motors replaced fall 2024
Sam had some trouble with the wiper not working 100% of the time. I went and switched the jeep with her at the library. They worked for me.
They also worked for Pehlam Auto, but they replaced the motors just to be safe.
DONE Change oil in van
- State "DONE" from "WAITING"
- State "IN-PROGRESS" from "WAITING"
Parts are here. - State "WAITING" from "IN-PROGRESS"
Needed filter wrench, crush washers, ordered 1-day for Sun. - State "IN-PROGRESS" from "TODO"
Got ramps, oil, and filter from rockauto super long ago in prep.
Got this done at the shop in downtown East Aurora while on travel. I was over the target mileage and needed to get it done.
DONE Dipstick broken
- State "DONE" from "WAITING" Completed at Honda dealership, where I also had them do all of the recommended 100k mile maintenance. Expensive, but going to try and keep this thing on the road! It will need front struts next.
- State "IN-PROGRESS" from "TODO"
- State "TODO" from "WAITING"
Back in TODO because it needs to go the dealer - State "WAITING" from "IN-PROGRESS"
Moving to waiting alongside the exhaust job - State "IN-PROGRESS" from "TODO" Marking in-progress because I'll have the shop do this too.
Went we got the oil changed over 2024 Christmas in East Aurora, they pointed out the dipstick was broken. Someone broke it off and put a screw in the top! It has been at Jiffylube, Pehlam Auto, North Amherst Motors… impossible to know exactly when this happened.
I got a new dipstick and in Tony's driveway I pulled on the screw which came free. I put the screw in further and it came free again. Need to get this thing pulled out.
DONE Exhaust manifold cracked
- State "DONE" from "WAITING"
- State "WAITING" from "IN-PROGRESS"
Got it back from them Saturday - it's not the manifold but it does need a new exhaust. They're sourcing parts from both the dealer and NAPA. - State "IN-PROGRESS" from "TODO"
Sounds like a racecar starting up! I got under the van and the sound is coming from the rear manifold. I couldn't see any obvious holes.
On the drive home 2024-12-29 on the highway we got a check engine light for too much O2 in the exhaust, which confirms this issue. I bought a replacement set of bolts, gaskets, and the manifold. I'll probably have to see if I can get a shop to install them.
The ordered part is in. Need to get a shop to fix it.
Took it to 4x4 offroad recovery in Belchertown, after Martin didn't want to do it. Hopefully they get it done this week.
They never ended up calling back.
The side door stopped working yesterday, and I took it to North Amherst Motors. They'll handle the dipstick issue above, the door, and a full exhaust.
Picked up the van today. The door is still sketchy, but hey the exhaust is fixed. Paid $2,208.17. They did the rear struts I think, or the rear sway bar links? Something like that. They could not do the dipstick.
DONE Stuck dipstick and 100k maintainence
Took it to the dealer to do the stuck dipstick, Monday, July 7, 2025 at 7:00 AM, which north amherst motors couldn't do.
Spent $4061.11.
- Dipstick fixed: had to take the whole oil pan off
- Replace trans fliud
- New spark plugs + engine valve adjustment
- Replace timing belt + tensioner
- Replace accessory belt, water pump, coolant
DONE Steering rack
Completed .
It was making a whining noise, which the dealer found was from the empty power steering fluid (Sep 5, $183.37). I took it to the dealer, thinking the noise was related to the above work.
College St Motors did the new steering rack / steering gear this past week.
Paid $1617.44.
DONE Snow tires
- Dec 15, 2025
- 4 x Nokian Hakkapaleta.
- $1,277.39
DONE Replace front struts
- State "DONE" from "TODO"
DEADLINE:
I have the parts that I ordered from RockAuto. Need to find the time to do it. I also ordered the sway bar links in case they are hard to remove.
DONE State inspection
DEADLINE:
- State "DONE" from "WAITING" Sam did it today. Phew!
- State "IN-PROGRESS" from "TODO"
DONE Put on summer tires
SCHEDULED:
- State "DONE" from "TODO"
Took it to firestone, got them swapped. DEADLINE:
I'd love to get some rims just to mount the summer tires on… Clarks? Doesn't seem like there is a good deal to buy them online.
