About Me
(08.29.11) This December, I'll be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, commencing three and half years of study at Virginia Tech. I've made a home for myself in Blacksburg, VA (growing up in Syracuse, NY) and with less than a semester remaining I'm both excited to take the next step in my life and sad that I'll be leaving this place behind. The plan is to go to graduate school to study Applied Mathematics, and I'm looking hard for areas in which this can be done that I find compelling. For the 8 months I'll have off before grad school, I'm looking for an internship or to get paid to do research. Extracurricularly, I'm big into cycling, but more generally into just having fun adventures. Last summer, I biked across the country with Bike and Build, I've been racing bikes for three years with the VT Cycling and VT Triathlon Teams now, and have signed up for the Richmond Marathon on Nov 12 that I'm been training for now!
One of the most interesting classes that I've taken at VT was a two-year series on Earth Sustainability. I learned a great deal about the issues that confront humanity in the areas of shelter, energy, food, water, waste, etc. and this knowledge undoubtedly shapes the way that I think. I've made attempts to combine my interests in cycling and sustainability through the SGA Sustainability and Transportation Committees, have worked for Virginia Tech Parking and Campus Services under "Alternative" Transportation, and really think that it would be awesome that if I could use the techniques of applied mathematics in this field somehow.
Other random things I enjoy (besides road cycling, running, mountain biking, and mathematics): just being outdoors in general (backpacking), brewing my own beer, baking bread, welding things together, web design...pretty much you name it. Some personal records include riding for over 20 miles with no hands, getting 43.7MPG in my 1999 Honda Accord (2011's boasting 30MPG are a sad accomplishment IMHO), and amassing over 3,000 tweets of awesomeness.
