Stuff

Hey so it’s late, but I haven’t tweeted in awhile so I figured that I’d throw a quick update up. Its the middle of exam week right now, and it hasn’t really been that hectic. I’ve been studying rather lightly, since I already know the physics and can get a B in organic chemistry with a decent grade on the final. The great news recently is that the physical chemistry test that I thought that I got a 50 on, I actually got an 80 on! I took the whole time on the test, and alwasy bubble last, and I got one row off bubbling…and so Madsen gave me half of those points back, moving me to a 65. We just got our final grades today: class average 66, I got a 76, and he said there would be “very significant curving”! So the class that I thought I was doomed with a C in from one bad test…I might get a B after all!!
Hmm so some other things that I got figured out: I had no idea at all who I was living with next year, and was getting a little worried as all of my friends were starting to sign leases, so I gave Dave Henry a call since I heard a rumor that he was looking for a house, and we’re going to live together next year! So I’m pretty excited about that, finally having some space. We found one spot that was 3BR for $600 a month, right next to campus, but they’re looking for someone for spring. That wouldve been a steal, most people in the apartment complexes are paying over $400 each after utilities.
Some other things…I just finished watching Donnie Darko, the plot was reminescent (spelling) of the Butterfly Effect, with the whole time travel idea, but I liked it.
And tonight, got some free ice cream at the “Cram Jam” study break, and participated in a psuedo-flash mob! Hmm and I got the CS3 Suite from my friend, and have been playing around in flash a lot! I think I might redesign my whole site in flash, that would be an “over break” project haha. You can check out one of my first ever flash creations at http://andyreagan.com/bouncyball.html, the buttons work!
That’s pretty much all. The coolest part of this new blog is that you’re free to comment, you don’t have to log in or anything!

New Blog!!

**This was from back when I moved my blog to blogspot and inserted it into my filebox site as a frame….basically really outdated!

Hey so I’ve totally switched up the format of my blog, and inserted this blogspot page into my own, and it’s going to make it SO much easier for me to update!!
Right now, to view any of the old ones, there’s a link below this frame (scroll way way down), and it look like I’m going to be able to actually move them into blogspot eventually.
So, this is what I’m going to use over the summer most likely, especially if I can find a way to post video! I’m sure there is.
Anyway, finals week is fast approaching (today is the last day of class), so I’ve got to get ready for physical chemistry bigtime. I bombed the last test..but if I get 100 on the final (completely impossible in this class) I MAY be able to pull off a B or B-, hopefully! That’s friday morning (look at the calender) and I also have my ES papers due then as well. The letter to the editor that I wrote (one of the four ES papers) is the prior post. And then all I’ve got are organic chemistry and physics, both Wednesday the 16th. Physics I am not too worried about, I’m looking at an A in that class if I get an 85 on the final (a B if I don’t take it at all). And O’chem…now looks like I’m pulling for that B+/A- but I’m going to have to do really well on the final for either of those. We’ll see how it goes, I’m going to study for pchem now…

Later, enjoy the new format!

Know your food, people!

This is a draft of a letter to the editor, as part of our ES final reflection. Still a definite work in progress, I’ve been adding and cutting from it to keep it under 200 words.

I’m not going to tell you that you should eat vegan, vegetarian, flexatarian, or whatever, to “save the environment.” All I’m challenging/proposing is that you take the effort to understandwhere your food comes from, and what your decisions to eat it mean to your health, our local economy or the industrial agriculture system. As long as you can be comfortable with whatever that means, then I can have no problem with you eating a McDonald’s cheeseburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Here’s one real example: When thinking about whether to drive or walk to campus, consider that cheeseburger for breakfast. Looking closely at the way we grow corn today, it operates on genetically modified corn, engineered to grow in close quarters, in vast monocultures, and heavily reliant on tons of fertilizers and pesticides (both fossil fuel based). Then think about the tractors, the combines, the semis transporting it and finally, the cow eating it (as today’s Holstien cattle are fed solely grain). It then takes 35 pounds of grain to make one pound of cow.
You’d literally burn more gas walking than driving your car an equivalent distance, with red meat as your fuel of choice.
Then ask yourself if this bothers you at all. If it does, as I think it should, do your homework. I’d suggest reading Omnivore’s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, as the best thing you’ll do over break
